Welcome
The philosophy of the New Moon Health RC is one of empowerment through the art of Chinese Medicine using
holistic treatments that not only relieve symptoms but help identify the root causes of illness.

Who Are We
Jacqueline Luna-Knapp, aka Jackie, was born into a family of island herbalists and shamans.
She came to natural medicine later in life while spending almost 30 years studying many different forms
of traditional and alternative medicines and found Chinese Medicine to be the most consistent,
most holistic and the most powerful form of medicine to promote harmony and healing in our bodies.
Her specialty is working with children using a practical method which she honed while aiding in the
health of her children. Jackie is passionate about the power of Chinese Medicine and loves being able
to treat people of all ages using an art unequaled to any other.
She has worked to educate a new generation of practitioners in her former role as a professor of
Pediatrics in Chinese Medicine and Oncology in Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine
(PCOM) in New York City.
Jackie is a Licensed Acupuncturist in NY. She obtained a Bachelors of Science in Electrical
Engineering from Manhattan College and earned her Masters Degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine
(MSTOM) from PCOM. She is board-certified as a Diplomat of Acupuncture from the National Certification
Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and certified by the Council of Colleges
of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) in Clean Needle Technique.
Dr. Douglas Knapp is among a handful of people in the U.S. to have earned the degree of Doctor of
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in San Diego,
California and also holds a MSTOM from PCOM in New York City. He is board-certified as a Diplomat in
Acupuncture from the NCCAOM, certified by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
(CCAOM) in Clean Needle Technique and is state-certified as a Licensed Acupuncturist in New York.
Dr. Knapp is a former professor at PCOM in New York City. His interest in Chinese medicine has its roots
from when he was introduced to martial arts at the early age of four and has continued practicing
throughout his life. Dr. Knapp has developed his own style of treatment based on techniques taught
by Dr. Richard Tan, Master Tong and Dr. Myriam Lee.
This technique minimizes the number of needles used, thereby, reducing any discomfort that may be
experienced. He has logged thousands of patient hours while developing his pain treatments and enjoys
the challenges that each new patient brings.
We are also proud to host graduating medical students from the Albert Einstein/Montefiore College of
Medicine’s Alternative Medicine Program.

Acupuncture and Children
We take pride in the way we treat our young patients because of the way they respond to acupuncture and
herbal medicine. Chinese Medicine offers solutions that work with a child to stimulate healing and make the
body stronger. We have developed and expanded on a style of treatment that is our form of medical Qi Gong
called Pediatric Tui Na for over 17 years.
A child's life is affected by their parents at conception and continues to do so while growing up in an
environment that is toxic in so many ways: nutrition, demands, location and upbringing. The health of our
children is our priority at New Moon Health where we try to help each child live a happy, healthy and
fruitful life while doing our best to assist parents in relaxing and enjoying watching their children grow
and prosper.

Chinese Medicine and Nutrition
Oriental Medicine is a comprehensive medical system that includes acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal preparations,
Tui Na (therapeutic massage), nutrition and Qi Gong (calisthenics and meditation). It emerged from 5,000
years of empirical study and through the observation of nature and cycles of movement and balance within
the body. It is based on the concepts of Yin and Yang and the 5 Phases which were derived by the ancient
Chinese as a way of explaining nature. Practice has proved that in some areas the theories and clinical
efficacy of Chinese medicine can supplement the deficiency of contemporary medicine. It is distinctive
and complementary; a major feature of Chinese medicine.

How do Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Work
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine work by adjusting the Qi of the involved channels. This enables the Qi to
carry out its function and resolve disease symptoms and discomforts that have arisen. Information on the
patient is gathered by use of the Four Examinations:Looking,Asking/Listening,Smelling and Touching.
By using the principles of Yin and Yang and the 5 Phases, a pattern will emerge and a diagnosis will be formed.
As each patient is unique, so is their treatment, once this diagnosis is established and the disease will be
treated or prevented by stimulating or reducing the flow of Qi.
